Day 4 review

October 23, 2012

Yesterday we ran the famous Mil Combres. It’s a fantastically fast downhill forest run with lefts and rights only yards apart. If you do it right it’s like “skiing” the car down the hill.
We ran strong and even caught two cars on one 16km section. But unfortunately, we were two cars behind a 911 that crashed and then dumped oil on the racing line for 8km. We hit the oil and went into a four wheel drift. Luckily we found traction again at the edge of road and were able to continue. However, the rest of the section we had to drive off line and slow. Better safe than sorry.
Anyhow, it was still a great day and we ended up 3rd in class. Morelia is absolutely beautiful!

Perfect ski practice for all the snow n cold weather hitting the mtns right now. :-D
Nice work catching the dry shoulder after the oil!
–side note, was that yellow studebaker the one that actually initiated the pile up??
Glad to see El Taxi takin the obstacles like a pro!

Sounds a little tense when you hit the oil spill. Yikes!!!!! Smart driving led to a safe finish. I never realized there would be so many challenges popping up. Keep those senses sharp. First in class tomorrow? I’m feeling a grand finish.

Coach wants video for his class! Recovery from an oil spillage would be a great addition to the otherwise staid and boring curriculum mandated by the state. Safe driving!
